NIA’s most wanted terrorist Shahnawaz Alam alias Shafi Uzzama has been arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell on Monday. He was wanted in the Pune ISIS case.
In September this year, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had announced a reward of Rs 3 lakhs on Shahnawaz.
Alongwith Shahnawaz, the Delhi Police Special Cell has also detained some other people. Further investigation into the case in underway.
A manhunt was launched by the NIA on Saturday to locate three Islamic State-linked terrorists in Central Delhi. As per reports, the agency was looking for Mohammad Shahnawaz Alam alias Shafi Uzzama alias Abdullah, Rizwan Abdul Haji Ali, and Abdullah Fayaz Shaikh.
All the four were wanted in the Pune ISIS module case and a reward of Rs 3 lakh each was announced by the NIA.
To nab the terrorists, the Pune Police and NIA teams raided several locations in the Central Delhi. Later, other intelligence agencies have joined the team in the operation.
Who is Shahnawaz Alam?
According to the Delhi Police, Shahnawaz is an engineer by profession. He is a resident of Delhi and had escaped from Pune police custody and started to live in the national capital.
What is the Pune ISIS case?
The NIA, on 3 August, 2023, carried out an investigation in the ISIS Pune module case during which it was revealed that the accused had planned to carry out a terrorist conspiracy with an aim to disturb the peace and communal harmony of the country.
In this case, NIA said that it was looking for all these four accused, for which a reward has been placed on them.
Till mid of September, the agency had arrested seven people in the case. All these members of the ISIS sleeper module were working from a house in Kondhwa, Pune. They were allegedly assembly IEDs and organised as well as participated participated in a bomb training and manufacturing workshop last year. They had also carried out a controlled blast at the site to test the IED made by his team.
