Maharashtra announces five-level 'unlock' plan; lockdown lifted in 18 districts including Thane; full details here

The Governemnt of Maharashtra on Thursday cancelled the CLass 12 board exams while announcing a five-level unlock plan to ease COVID-19-led lockdown across the state.

Announcing zero restrictions in 18 states, the state governement said that restrictions will depend on the positivity rate and status of occupancy of oxygen beds in the state, the state government said.

"We have prepared a 5-level unlock plan for the State on the basis of positivity rate and status of occupancy of oxygen beds in the districts. Districts with the lowest positivity rate will have no restrictions," Maharashtra minister Vijay Wadettiwar said. He also announced the cancellation of the Class 12 board exam.

According to CNN-News18, the Maharasthra said that while there will be no restrictions on areas with low positivity rate such as Thane, relaxations will be allowed in other areas with restrictions. E-passes for inter-district movement will continue to be mandatory in Level Five districts.
This, just days after the state government allowed essential shops to remain open till 2 pm in districts with 10 percent Covid positivity rate and where occupancy of oxygen beds was less than 40 percent.
Here is what the five-level lockdown will look like:

Level 1: Districts with positivity rate of 5 percent or below and Oxygen bed occupancy less than 25 percent

There will be no lockdown in 18 districts categorised as Level One. These include Aurangabad, Bhandara, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Dhule, Gondia, Jalgaon, Latur, Nanded, Nasik, Parbhani, Thane and Vardha

"Restaurants, malls, shops, local trains, public places, tourist destinations, public, private offices, theatres, shootings, gatherings, social entertainment, marriages, gym, salon, beauty parlours will be allowed.

Level 2: Positivity rate 5 percent and oxygen bed occupancy up to 50 percent.

As per the new 'unlock' plan, Section 144 will remain applicable in Level Two districts. Ahmednagar, Amravati, Hingoli, Nandurbar and Mumbai and Suburban Mumbai are some of the districts that fall into the Level Two category.

More activities will be alowed, but with certain restictions. Gyms, salons, beauty parlours will be allowed to open with 50 percent occupancy in Level Two districts. There wil also be restrictions on number of people in marriages. Local trains will not be allowed in these areas.

According to the new 'Unlock' plan, 10 districts namely Akola, Beed, Kolhapur, Usmanabad, Ratnagiri, Palgahar, Sindhudurg, Sangli, Solapur  and Satara are placed under Level Three category, where COVID positivity rate is between 6 percent and up to 10 percent, whereas, Pune and Raigad have been named udner Level four.
