Karnataka: Two domes removed from 'mosque-like' Mysuru bus stand after BJP MP's demolition threat

Two Mosque-like domes have been removed from a bus stop in Karnataka’s Mysuru days after a BJP MP threatened to demolish it.

Now only one dome remains perched on the bus stop. The bus stop located on National Highway 766 originally had three golden-coloured domes that were later painted red.

The bus stand became the center of a row after Karnataka BJP MP Pratap Simha said that the structure resembled a “mosque” and threatened to demolish it.

Local BJP MLA Ram Das, who built the bus stop said it was modelled after the iconic Mysore Palace.

The National Highways Authority of India also sought clarification from officials on the matter.

“The bus stop shouldn’t be in controversy. I constructed 12 bus stops across Mysuru as a model palace. But it was given communal colour, and it has hurt me. After taking the opinion of seniors, I demolished two small gumbaz (dome) and retained the big gumbaz. People should not perceive it otherwise. The decision was taken in the interest of development,” India Today quoted MLA Ramdas as saying.

Meanwhile, MP Pratap Simha hailed the move and thanked Ramdas and the District Collector.

India’s investment in water sector to be highest in world by 2024: Union Minister Shekhawat at Isha Insight 2022

New Delhi: Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Jal Shakti Minister, on Saturday said that India’s investment in the water sector will be the highest in the world by 2024.

‘India’s estimated investment in the water sector from 2019 to 2024 at $210 billion is the highest in the world,’ said Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, as he addressed the third day of the 11th edition of Isha Leadership Academy’s flagship program – ‘Isha Insight: The DNA of Success’ at the Isha Yoga Center in Coimbatore on Saturday.

In conversation with Sadhguru, Founder – Isha Foundation, Shekhawat expanded on the ambitious goal of the Jal Jeevan Mission, which aims to provide safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connections to all households in rural India by 2024, adding that managing water is our collective responsibility and we will all have to work together in this direction.

Appreciating the model of implementation of the Jal Shakti Mission, Sadhguru said, “I think the best part of the mission is – it is community-managed. It is government-installed but community-managed. I think that is a way forward for a country like this, otherwise, the government doing the service all the time is never going to work till the last mile.”

According to the Jal Jeevan Mission dashboard, 16% of Indian Households in 2019 had access to tap water connection which has now grown to 54%. However, the focus of the mission, pointed out Shekhawat, is not only confined to the accessibility of water but on ensuring water quality.

To ensure water quality in the rural parts, the ministry is engaging the rural community and leveraging technology to craft innovative solutions. It embarked on creating water and sanitation committees in each and every village which comprises 21 people with a minimum of 50% women. “We then started training the ladies in the villages and gave them hand-held devices to test the quality on all basic 12 parameters. They can test the water in their village frequently, at least in a month’s time or in a week’s time,” explained Shekhawat.

The minister, recognizing the future of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Sensor-based solutions, is now inviting Indian start-ups to contribute in this area. The ministry floated a hackathon inviting start-ups. Out of the 220 start-ups that registered, the ministry arrived at two start-ups that are now serving at more than 100 locations in the country in different geographical areas. for everyone to see. ”Online real-time report of the quality of the water which is being distributed comes to my office. Everything, whatever I’m talking about, the entire mission is in the public domain.”

Earlier in the day, Aravind Melligeri, Chairman, and CEO, Aequs took centerstage sharing his journey of setting up a manufacturing company. Aravind recalled his organisation’s values of Transparency, Trust, and Respect, and pointed out the lack of respect for workers in manufacturing as one of the biggest challenges. “They get yelled at, scolded. Irrespective of whatever they’re doing, they don’t get respect. So we said irrespective of who in the organisation it is, he has to be respected. Whether it’s a driver, cleaning, sweeping person, shop floor employee, blue collar, or white collar, everybody should be respected. I have let more people go for violating the respect principle than anything else in my organisation.”

When asked about his views on expanding semiconductor manufacturing in India, Aravind preferred directing investments in packaging and PCBAs, and other elements that would create more jobs rather than chasing the wafer manufacturing business. “We got to look from the job creation perspective as a country because that is the most important thing. If I was given the money, I would put it in packaging and PCB, kind of a component manufacturing…there’s so much vertical integration that can happen at a much lower cost than choosing a wafer.”

Isha Insight 2022 encompassed an illustrious set of speakers who have shared their deep insights with close to 200 business leaders from across India who are participating in this year’s Isha Insight. Sadhguru, Founder, Isha Foundation, Thampy Koshy, CEO, Open Network For Digital Commerce (ONDC), Sonam Wangchuk, Director, Himalayan Institute of Alternatives, Ladakh (HIAL); Kunal Bahl, Co-Founder, AceVector Group (Snapdeal, Unicommerce and Stellaro); Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, MD, CEO – Bandhan Bank and Gautam Saraogi, Founder, CEO – Go Colors have graced the earlier two days of the premier business leadership intensive program.

Over the past decade, Isha Insight: The DNA of Success has become one of the most sought-after business leadership programs in the world. Previously, program participants have been mentored by veterans like Ratan Tata, NR Narayana Murthy, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, GM Rao, KV Kamath, Ajay Piramal, Harsh Mariwala, Arundhati Bhattacharya, Bhavish Aggarwal, Pawan Goenka among several others.

PM Modi stresses 'India must use G20 leadership to focus on global welfare' in Mann Ki Baat

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday addressed the 95th edition of his monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’. During his speech, he spoke about India’s G-20 presidency and termed it as ‘a huge opportunity for India’. He also praised the launch of the Vikram-S rocket, the first one built by India’s private sector, into space. Speaking about innovations in technology sector, he said that the country is ‘moving fast in the field of drones’.

G-20 presidency for India

PM Modi said, “The G-20 has a partnership comprising two-thirds of the world’s population, three-fourths of world trade, and 85 per cent of world’s GDP. You can imagine – India will become such a big and powerful country after three days from now i.e. from the 1 December.”

“People from across the country have written to me about how proud they are that India has got the G-20 presidency… the Presidency of G-20 has arrived as a big opportunity for us. We have to focus on global good, world welfare- whether it is peace or unity, sensitivity towards the environment, or sustainable development- India has solutions to challenges related to these. The theme that we have given “One Earth, One Family, One Future” shows our commitment to Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” he added.

Vikram-S launch

The Prime Minister said, “In the 18th of November, the whole country witnessed new history being made in the space sector. On this day, India sent its first such rocket into space, which was designed and prepared by the private sector of India. The name of this rocket is – ‘Vikram-S’.”

Sharing space sector with neighbouring countries

“India is sharing its success in the space sector with its neighbouring countries as well. Just yesterday, India launched a satellite, which has been jointly developed by India and Bhutan. This satellite will send pictures of very good resolution which will help Bhutan in the management of its natural resources. The launching of this satellite is a reflection of the strong Indo-Bhutan relations,” the Indian leader said.

Innovations in technology sector

The Indian Premier said, “When we are talking about innovations related to technology, how can we forget drones? India is also moving fast in the field of drones. A few days ago we saw how apples were transported through drones in Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh. Kinnaur is a remote district of Himachal and there is heavy snowfall in this season.”

Export of Electrical Musical Instruments

“You will be pleased to know that in the last eight years the export of musical instruments from India has increased three and a half times. Talking about Electrical Musical Instruments; their export has increased 60 times. This shows that the craze for Indian culture and music is increasing all over the world. The biggest buyers of Indian Musical Instruments are developed countries like USA, Germany, France, Japan and UK,” he said.

Shashi Tharoor's funny 'Messi' and 'Mausi' tweet goes viral, check what it is

Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor is quite active on social media and makes headlines for his interesting and unique posts. Besides sharing his political statements and views, he also shares light-hearted posts on Twitter that go viral in no time. With that said, as the FIFA World Cup fever has gripped the entire nation, it has also not spared the senior leader. Taking to Twitter, Tharoor shared a meme showing Messi and an Indian woman, both of them carrying a similar kind of balancing task.

As we look at the picture, on one side star footballer Lionel Messi can be seen balancing a ball on his head while on the other side, an Indian woman from a rural area can be seen balancing several earthen pots on her head. Appreciating the ‘Messi-Mausi’ post, the senior Congress leader wrote, “Hats (& any other headgear) off to the intrepid Indian woman!”

Check:

His post went viral as soon as it was uploaded. While a large section of people lauded the leader for the tweet, some also went on to misinterpret the meaning of the term 'intrepid'. While a user wrote, "While not undermining Messi's skills, the smiling woman is sheer poetry in motion... Some people just see the poverty, as if that's something to be shameful about", another person commented, "By terming that woman as “intrepid”, you’re indirectly romanticising not only the patriarchal oppression which assigns this role to her but also the neoliberal system that thwarts efficient public water management."

Check some reactions:

So far, the post has grabbed 13,000 likes and several comments from his followers. It is pertinent to note that while the Congress leader's post was just an inspiration from the ongoing football season, there is indeed an evident craze for the game among the people of India.

Presently, the 22nd edition of the FIFA World Cup is taking place in the Arab world, Qatar. It began on 20 November and will conclude on 18 December 2022.
